The right way for finding people interest online and what are they searching for, in Google’s word:
With Google Trends, you can compare the world’s interest in your favorite topics. Enter up to five topics and see how often they’ve been searched on Google over time. Google Trends also shows how frequently your topics have appeared in Google News stories, and in which geographic regions people have searched for them most.
Google Insights for Search

With Google Insights for Search, you can compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories, time frames and properties.

Keyword research tools for SEO, PPC, link building and blogging. The most amazing tool they also have is ”Keyword Questions” , with this tool you can find the question people are using online just by entering the one simple keyword, for example you type “Christmas” and you will get the list of questions about Christmas that people actually used online. This is paid tool.
